With same-sex marriage comes same-sex divorce. The lesbian couple who filed a lawsuit in the historic Massachusetts Supreme Court case that lead to marriage equality has announced they are splitting up. Julie and Hillary Goodridge became gay icons after the decision in Goodridge v Department of Public Health. It should not take long before the anti-gay right starts using the Goodridges as an example of the instability of same-sex marriage. Of course, they will fail to mention that over half of marriages end in divorce (whether the couple is religious or not). But statistics and facts are always an afterthought when the right sees a chance to bash gay families.
